BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Embedded systems are everywhere, right from your mobile SIM to deep space rovers. Today general processing system is limiting to organization level and consumer market is finding huge applications from microcontrollers and rightly so since microcontrollers are so easy to handle with everything on chip(memory, timers, RAM, ROM etc), we don’t have to get into all sorts of hectic interfacing. Moreover microcontroller programmer finds enormous support from huge developed base spread across geography.

Major electronic industry deals with microcontroller delivering their own microcontroller families. So it gives a real edge during interviews if you have done some good work on embedded systems.

PROJECT IDEA

1.    Difficulty level: Easy

Data Acquisition System: Numerous sensors are present in market which helps you capture real time variations like Temperature changes or pressure applied. These sensors can be calibrated according to our needs and data usage methods.

Microcontrollers like 8051/8052 or PIC can be used to use the data captured from these sensors.

With the help of various sensors and LCD devices interfaced to your microcontroller, you can build very robust DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM.

PREREQUISITES AND EXPECTATIONS     

  • Microcontrollers are coded using assembly language or embedded C, so it is important have some knowledge of either of these (learning assembly language is very easy if you know basic of C).
  • You’ll require good knowledge of microcontroller you are using. (Read Mohammad Ali Mazidi for 8051 variants).
  • You will require platforms for compiling codes (software: Keil C) and burning hex files (result of compilation) into microcontrollers (Electronic and Instrumentation usually have all platforms).

HOW TO START

  •  Learn microcontroller which you are planning to use(8051 is easier while PIC is powerful)
  •  Build some small assembly codes
  • Get data sheets of sensors which you plan to use and have some knowledge about them.
  • Interface the hardware according to pins described in data sheets (Mohammad Ali Mazidi teaches it well)
  • Code the final code and burn it into microcontroller using burner.
